In the article the impact of varying humidity conditions on selected strength properties of hardened steel fibre-reinforced concrete (such as Young’s modulus and the compressive strength of concrete) were analysed. The analysis shows that the value of the Young’s modulus of concrete cured under 100% humidity conditions is the highest; 35% higher compared to concrete hardening in the laboratory hall...
In the era of where universal architectural forms dominate, there is growing demand for architecture, which, in addition to meeting contemporary functional and technological requirements, also show the identity of its region. It is of key importance in shaping the relationship between space and the community. The visible bond between the past and the present creates a continuity of the cultural environment...
The article presents the results of studies aimed at clarifying the heat engineering calculations of energy-efficient residential buildings in the mountainous regions of Armenia. The regular changes in climatic factors of mountainous conditions at the altitudes of 800-1000 m above sea level were determined from the statistical and regulatory data of the Republic of Armenia using the method of statistical...
There is a growing concern over the insufficient utilization of by-products from biomass combustion in Poland. Moreover, the concrete industry faces the threat of inadequate supplies of good quality coal fly ash. One way of enhancing the utility of biomass fly ash is blending it with coal fly ash. The aim of this study is to assess the influence of blending biomass fly ash with coal fly ash on the...
This paper is devoted to the development of nano-modified cementing composites in the field of self-cleaning building materials. Particle-size distributions of the main constituents such as ultra-fine zeolite and limestone of multicomponent cements, and titanium dioxide and kaolin additives are given. The degree of the interphase of the active surface in Portland cement and supplementary cementitious...
The work is devoted to modelling Twin Fresh ventilator efficiency. The main aim is to simulate heat exchanged in a heat regenerator in variable conditions. The mathematical model is based on Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow. The model is designed to achieve an adequate time for calculation and sufficient precision. The results show high efficiency of heat recovery in the order of 97.4%.
An urban form has undeniable influence on microclimatic and human thermal conditions in strongly urbanized areas. In this context, this paper aims at evaluating the ability of the layout of street canyons to provide proper outdoor conditions in the human realm. The research is focused on the assessment of human thermal comfort depending on the configuration of the selected streets, which are located...
The main causes of human heat loss are convection, conduction, radiation and evaporation. Conductive heat loss is so small that it can be considered alongside convective heat loss. The most characteristic factor of heat loss is radiation. As a result of experimental studies, a graph of air temperature in the work area was plotted showing the mobility of air at different heat capacities of the emitter...
Industries related to the acquiring of building materials may soon face a shortage of natural resources and an associated increase in costs of their acquisition. Therefore, it is necessary to look for possible ways to reduce the exploitation of natural resources and instead use recycled raw materials. Such policies fit into one of the most important trends in modern construction, which is sustainable...
The paper presents the issues related to the excessive use of natural resources and the possibility of its reduction through the use of ash deposited in landfills. Two different ashes from the combustion of various types of biomass (coconut shell and sunflower) were used and compared with each other. As part of the tests, the chemical composition of the ashes used was checked and samples of cement...
Machinery faults are a problem that incorrectly diagnosed may result in the increase of waste. The fault mentioned in the article was identified at an opencast facility located in Podkarpacie. The purpose of the study was to analyse the defect identified on the excavator arm using quality management techniques. These techniques were the Ishikawa diagram and the 5Why method. In the plant, unit faults...
Heat transfer through curvilinear partitions differs, in mathematical terms, from transfer through flat ones. However, in practical calculations, an approximation is commonly used by estimating heat loss by analogy to flat partitions. There are no studies in the literature related to an exact quantitative analysis of heat loss through curvilinear partitions. The aim of the article is a comparative...
The assumptions used in the calculation methods for housing heating costs are described in this paper. The results of calculations are influenced by the values of coefficients related to the location of flats in a building. A technical contradiction, a reversed technical contradiction and a physical contradiction were formulated. Based on the indicated inventive principles, the calculation methods...
The key determinants in the development of the low-energy building industry are full and complex legal regulations for investors, designers and companies working in the building sector, as well as, economic instruments supporting the development of such buildings. Legal and administrative measures regulating the issue of energy efficiency in the building sector are reinforced by financial instruments...
The main function of architecture is to arrange living space for everyone regardless of their citizenship, social status, age, and physical abilities. The quality of a settlements’ architectural and spatial environment depends on various conditions where one of the key criteria at present is the need to consider interests of specific groups of people and explore architectural planning solutions that...
Multimedia projectors are used increasingly in academic centres and ensuring good visibility of the screen requires the limiting of light in classrooms. The purpose of the paper was to evaluate the quality of artificial general lighting on worktops used for writing in a didactic room. It was measured with full lighting and for three variants (degrees) of lighting dimmed during the display of a multimedia...
The circular economy is not only a system of waste management. It is a system which includes the products’ design construction, recycling of raw materials and whose aim is that all components and materials bring added value in different technical and biological cycles. The construction sector is currently among the world’s largest producers of waste. It is estimated that about 1.3 billion tons of...
Due to the increasing use of fibre composites in the construction industry, wooden beams reinforced with composite elements in various forms are becoming a popular solution. In order to repair the existing structure or to increase the load capacity of new elements, various types of reinforcing elements in the form of tapes and bars are introduced into the cross-section. For unconventional methods...
The subject of the work is an analysis of two types of solar collectors: flat-plate and evacuated tube collectors in the same, natural working conditions during the period from 1st May 2017 to 30th September 2017. The scope of work includes a descriptive presentation of a measuring setup, located on the roof of the building of the Construction University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and also the...
The development of the computer industry has largely contributed to significant progress in design. For several decades, computers have supported designers worldwide. The current computer-aided design systems are a basic tool in any engineering project, from calculations through to complex graphic design. There are many computer-aided programmes designed for the construction industry on the market...
